Where a child, other than the defendant, is to give evidence or involved in proceedings in respect of an offence of sexual abuse, an offence of cruelty, or an offence which involves an assault on, or injury or a threat of injury to, a person and the offence is triable on indictment or either summarily or on indictment, the following options are available so as to protect the child witness and reduce the trauma of giving evidence:
